High Speeds and a Gravity-Defying Loop-de-Loop
The Ferrari Challenge Race Set harnesses the power of electricity to send two Ferrari cars speeding down a slot-car-style track. Relying on an AC adapter that plugs into any standard wall outlet (USA), this set achieves top racing speeds without the hassle or waste of batteries. Two handheld Turbo Power controllers operate two separate, highly detailed plastic Ferrari cars complete with screw-down parts. One car is painted bright red and the other vibrant blue, so it's easy to tell them apart as they whizz past curves and twirl up and around the track's exciting loop-de-loop.

A durable, segmented plastic-and-metal track snaps together to form a smooth, solid unit. Small plastic strips securely join the segments. The set also includes spare pieces for both car and track, extending the life of this carefully crafted set. White plastic guardrail strips attach to the track's sharpest curves to help keep the cars on track. While our testers found the guardrails do not entirely prevent cars from flying off the track, they do help contain spin-outs.

A Good Introductory Set
Carrera offers an extensive line of racing sets and accessories, and the Ferrari Challenge makes a good introductory set. Though by no means basic or boring, this set allows beginner racers to familiarize themselves with the twists and turns of slot-car racing while whetting their appetite for more advanced features, such as Carrera digital racing sets and tracks with overtaking (passing) abilities.

While the Ferrari Challenge Racing Set is intended for racing enthusiasts ages 8 and up and can teach younger racers about kinetics, electricity, and centrifugal force, it's also fun for teens and adults alike. Our adult testers enjoyed the thrill of racing at high speeds and, well, wiping out too.

Turbo Power Control
At the push of a button, two handheld Turbo Power controllers send cars moving along the track at variable speeds. Our testers found that mastering the controllers takes some practice. Press your thumb too hard or too quickly on the controller's button, and your car will veer off course; not fast enough, and your car won't make it all the way around the loop-de-loop. This challenge adds to the fun and tests your motor skills. Gain confidence with the controllers first by yourself, then take on challengers.

Set-up and Race
When fully assembled, the Ferrari Challenge Race Set is 6.40 feet long and 2.46 feet wide. So before you begin piecing the track together, clear plenty of room on a hard, flat surface. A rec room floor is fine, but a more permanent location like a tabletop is preferable since once assembled, the track is not easy to move. Assembly can be a fun project for parents and children to do together and may take up to two hours. Our testers found assembly to be the most difficult aspect of this racing set. However, once finished, the reward was worth the hard work.

All tracks suffer voltage drop due to resistance in the rails. The further from where the power attaches to the track, the weaker the cars run. With Carrera, the effect is noticeable within 12 running feet of track, the more powerful the motor, greater the effect. Eliminate the low power zones on your track by adding these "jumpers". Use several for very long tracks. The special clips snap easily in the rail under Carrera track. put one end near your existing power inlet and the other in a weak zone. Make long tracks perform MUCH better! Each package boosts power for 2 lanes at points up to 33 feet apart. Flat wire design allows running under track, or route under your table. It is compatible with Carrera's Exclusiv, Evolution, Pro-X and Digital 132 sets.
